As summer is winding down, our witchlings are also returning to school, in fact mine went back last week! This is a busy time full of action for all involved which can increase things like stress and anxiety in the home.

Here are some tips:

  1. Get organized, but don’t bite off too much. I like to make sure all my paperwork has been filed from over the summer, it is easy to sometimes let things pile up (especially if you are anything like myself and just go into survival mode over the summer!) Once this is done, create a system for dealing with paperwork coming in, going out, needing to file, etc.
  2. Check your emails often, make sure school emails are not coming in as spam.
  3. Most schools have most important dates up on their websites by the end of the previous school year, so this is a great time to update all calendars.
  4. Smudge frequently during the initial transitioning, this can take up to a month in my house. I also like to burn candles and incense because the scent is both calming and pleasant.
  5. Some witchlings can be more nervous than others about returning to school, you can create a crystal kit with them or a pouch of herbs. I like to use stuff associated with calming, love, and protection. It can be fun and assuring to your witchling to pick out these items with you, set the intention, and feel more at ease. If you have witchlings that don’t know about your craft or you don’t want to pass your own anxiety onto, you can always add some love and protection with a simple lunch note, or by tucking something into a book bag pocket that never gets used.
  6. Look into waste free lunches if you have not done so already, I am making this transition as we speak. I have not picked up my reusable bags for snacks yet, but am going to be working at this. This is a great way to honor the environment, nature, and be witchy while looking pretty muggle if you are not out of the broom closet yet. On sundays prep your lunch items ahead of time for the week if able or set aside every night you will do this to reduce morning stress.
  7. Keep your goals simple and give yourself grace. The beginning of every school year, I tell myself all these things I am going to do. It is like setting new years resolutions every year, but I find myself doing this every new school year.I plan to attend all the pta meetings, that I will volunteer for all the things, I will try to talk to more moms, I am going to have all sorts of schedules/routines, I am going back to the gym, magically I am going to eat right, etc. and this will be the best year yet. Two weeks later, I feel kind of hungover, wonder what I was thinking, and I am just trying to hang in there! Every year does get a little better, as each year I get more used to the drill and some of my goals do stick. The goals that I don’t meet, I give myself grace for and revisit next year.
  8. Get back to some daily rituals. Maybe over the summer you let these go, you had more or less time than you do now, and before we know it, a new season will be upon us. This is a great time to plan ahead and think about what daily rituals you want to commit to. I like rituals that include self care and magical cleaning. This is super cliche, but “when you fail to plan, you plan to fail” So take a week or two to get used to the new normal, then plan and schedule your daily rituals.
  9. Speaking of daily rituals, depending on your household commitments and ages, it can be challenging to have family time. Remember to sit at the table with your witchlings if you can and to unplug for meals. If you can not do this daily, I sure can’t, pick at least one day a week for commiting to family rituals such as dinner.
  10. Get intimate with your crockpot, instapot, or whatever modern convenience helps you to feed your family dinner. Back to school, typically brings added activities like these:
  • Practices (sports,clubs,extracurricular activities)
  • Pta/Pto meetings
  • Play dates
  • Immunizations/physical forms

** For an added dose of magic, use herbs and spices for what you would like to see in your          family. Here is a great article that highlights some common herbs/spices and their magical uses incase you can use some inspiration. https://www.consciouslifestylemag.com/magical-herbs-and-plants/

Breath, remember to ground, you got this!

I hope you found these 10 tips helpful and are able to use some of them to make this back to school time less chaotic. Also, remember each new school year is a new milestone for witchlings; a new year of memories ready to be made, look forward to, and enjoy!
