Here in the northern hemisphere we just celebrated Litha, the summer solstice, and the longest day! This time is considered a liminal, or in between time, which is great for working with the fae. Aside from having a heightened awareness of other dimensional beings, I personally think summer is a great time for inviting the fae into our homes and lives as well.
I won’t go into too many details about the fae, as that would be an entire novel, but I will say a few things on the subject. The fae are light, playful, and creative beings full of energy. The fae can also be mischievous, so when inviting these elemental energies into your home please do so with some level of care. A good example of taking care is that once you begin to work with the fae and invite them into your home is to remember they do not take too kindly to being forgotten, and if you do so, they might just hide your keys or some other mostly harmless mischievous act. It is also important to understand that in everything the fae do, there is a reason. You might find your self the center of some mischief, but slow down and try to understand why…maybe your faery guides are trying to tell you that your life is far too serious, that maybe you need to pause and laugh a little. I do not believe the fae do anything in malice, but to share lessons.
So back to working with the fae this summer…I think summer to be a great time of play, to go on adventures, splash around, and have some fun. It is a time of light, longer days, growth, and healing. In the summer we remember a time in our youth when there is no more school and summer becomes symbolic of taking a break from the everyday. The harshness of winter is gone, and you can spend most of your days outdoors if you so choose. You can offer the fae a spot in your garden, in exchange for their blessings. You can ask the fae for some guidance or other assistance, while having a dance party in there honor.
The fae enjoy offerings, so I have several spaces for them in and around my home, so that they may have a place to call home as well. Another offer that works great for those with limited space is to leave a small bowl of milk and honey, I like to do this on full moons and for every turn of the wheel myself, but anytime will work. The fae also really like it when we sing, dance, and play around so you can do just that and keep things real simple!
It is important to focus on holistic practices as much as possible when inviting the fae into your home. Harsh chemicals used around the home or in your garden keeps them away. This would be a great time to look at more organic home and garden practices, as this is also better for you too!
Why do we want the fae in our homes? They are the shiny ones, the protectors of realms, their blessings make things grow just a little greener, and they bring an energy and touch of magic to the home that is much welcomed. The fae remind us to stop and smell the roses, to balance work with free time, and to be kinder to our earth mother. If you have been struggling to make your house feel like a home, you just might be in need of some faery blessings.
