I love this time of year in the northern hemisphere, there is fresh and local food everywhere. In my neck of the woods, the corn is getting tall and leaves have been falling pretty regularly.
I feel that our connection with nature is never stronger, this cycle of life is so plentiful. My favorite kind of magic making is incorporating the old ways into my every day. While time consuming, I can a number of goods and freeze a ton of others. I dream of someday having a perfectly stocked cellar and growing my own food. I also have many ideas about travel which clash a bit with my old timey, food growing ideals…but that is a problem for another day.
I feel so grateful and thankful for all that we have. If you work with deity, this is also a great time to strengthen your relationship there. It is harvest time, a time that we simply could not live with. It is a time in which farmers earn their livelihood. I think everyone should grow their own food and experience that spiritual bond, but in our society it is a challenge for sure.
So, you may wonder where exactly I am going with all of this?
Well, I work way too many hours and often eat out so much more than I should. I have a large family and we would benefit in so many ways by increasing our home cooked meals. So this current lunar cycle, I have chosen to cook dinner for the whole thing. For accountability, I am hosting a challenge in my WitchyThyme House Elves group on facebook, which you gain access to anytime you sign up for a free or paid offering. We are currently on the 5th day, but I also see this as a great opportunity for community and sharing something we all have in common. No matter what walk of life you come from, we all eat dinner and seeing what others eat or sharing recipes can help to inspire some kitchen witching.
