Do you remember being a kid and eagerly awaiting camp every year? In my kids schools, it is a rite of passing almost, they are k-6 in elementary school and in 6th grade they get to go to camp. It is a few days of complete freedom from parents, daily routines, every day society, and filled with activities. This is of course only one kind of camp, these days camps come in all shapes and sizes, while covering a diverse list of topics.
No matter the camp, there is something magical about unplugging from your daily routine and committing time to something different, something that brings you joy.
Think of all the adventures you used to have when you were a kid, all the exploring, and lessons you learned. Camps are a great way to foster this in person or virtually. What I remember most is how strong and powerful I felt, I felt as though suddenly I knew all the things and was ready to tackle the world!
If you are an adult, I encourage you to make time for this. Go on a camping trip, immerse yourself in a retreat, or find a less conventional type camp that touches on something you love or always meant to learn.
If you have witchlings at home, maybe take a week of their summer break to create a camp of your own if you are not sending them away to one. We go on a weekend camping trip that is entirely too short, but for one week of the summer I devote to making a camp of my own and for a few hours each day we do something we have never done before.
Camp doesn’t just have to be for childhood, in the words of Ms.Frizzle “Take chances, get messy, and make mistakes.”
Find something that enchants your daily life and or ignites your passions this summer!
