You might be wondering what in the world the tower card has to do with cleaning, what a strange title?!

Often times when a tarot newbie or just your average, every day person gets a tarot reading and see’s this card it can be a little alarming. However, after a couple decades of card slinging and years of studies, I often welcome this card. However, this blog is not my personal love letter to the Tower card.

I pulled this card when doing my daily reading this week and I don’t know why, but this particular version made me think of cleaning. Here at WitchyThyme, I love talking magical cleaning, so this isn’t a huge surprise.

I was flooded with song lyrics too and started reversing words, realizing I was inventing my own, a special talent I have been blessed with. So I hear Linkin Park “Burn It Down”, very fitting here, but my invented lyrics went something like “To build it back up, you have to burn it all down” LIGHT BULB!

Cleaning is always on the brain in my life because as someone who is deeply sensitive to energy, it’s like remembering to take a daily medication. That could be really negative if I didn’t find creative ways to invite magic in when doing so. I am unfortunately not one of those people who get immense joy out of cleaning my own spaces, I had my own professional cleaning business for years…you see I get immense joy from service to others, but myself, well lets just call that a work in progress. I digress!

Imbolc has passed, Ostara is so close we can practically feel it, and I live in Ohio where for the next two months it’s either over 60 degrees or snowing…Spring! As the earth starts to thaw out and wake up, so do we naturally. Every one has heard of spring cleaning because no one wants to do deep cleaning and trudge through ice or snow to get stuff out of their way to make room for something fresh.

Great, now we know why I am thinking about the Tower card and cleaning, but how do we combine them? Well, there are several ways to clean.

  1. Every day pick up, I like to call this moving one pile of stuff from one place to another. Then little things like washing dishes, you know the basic stuff so you can eat and get to work.
  2. Weekly chores, think of these like laundry. I won’t get too specific because our daily and weekly routines can somewhat vary if you are a household of 1 who gets to work from home verses perhaps a household of 7 with children.
  3. Then there is getting ready for company, which could mean some genuine deep cleaning or the ol’ shove and hide.
  4. This might be quarterly, bi-annual, or annual depending on who you are, but this is when the real active cleaning occurs for many…this right here is when I had my Tower ah ha moment.

If you clean, which if you are here, I am guessing you do…have you ever found your self in total despair because several hours of hard work later, you find that you have only made things worse?! It happens to me all the time folks. This happens because we do not take care of our homes in a way that is in magical alignment with regularity and consistency. This is the result of neglecting to do things in a way that will serve you. However, in the beginning of starting a routine, you will find yourself in this scenario, doing the hard work to get your home energetically ready for you to start a more consistent and intentional magical cleaning practice. By the way, if you have the ability to hire a service to help, there is no shame!

The Tower card is here to remind us when we have been working really hard and it seems like everything is just closing in and metaphorically crumbling around you, that there is a change coming. When you get to this moment, that is when the real cleaning begins and after a couple hours it is done. Something new has been created, you have changed your environment and with it (hopefully) learned some important lessons.

Remember that feeling when it was all done, how good it felt to be in the space, but don’t forget how it felt to get there either and stop fearing that Tower card!
