As the title may suggest, I truly believe every house has a soul and while the above image is so much fun, this is not what it looks like. I am going to talk about what messages your home may have for you.
A house is a lot like a machine in some regards and obviously not a living breathing thing, so how might it have a soul you may wonder. Well, energy is everywhere for one. The history of your home has a lot to do with it’s soul. It is made up of the events, people, and things it has seen.
I recently moved into a new home this year and it has had a lot to tell me. While I did not pick up on negative energy and many things in the home were shiny and new, I can tell you this home is old and tired. I do not think time has been kind to this home nor maybe all the people who have passed through its doors. There is a little woo to this and a little just history, picking up on things, talking to the owners/ neighbors etc.
My first 30 days in this place make for a really comical story looking back on it all now. We had plumbing issues, an ant infestation before we had even moved our stuff in, the heater went out in the midst of winter, then we had electrical problems. The walls were painted new, many cosmetic renovations had been made, and all in all this is a wonderful home for my family, but the house had a lot to let us in on for sure! We are in the process of giving the home some love and care.
My very first home had a lot to tell me in my first 30 days there too. I was 18 and super excited to find a 4 bedroom home on a quiet, wooded area, hidden in a really urban part of town. Well, I was never able to bring myself to go into the back bedrooms of the place. I could not step outside into this big, beautiful back yard because something just felt wrong. Then I spent all my time in the place scared, after a month, I sought out some family council and got the place smudged. Whatever was in that house, did not like the smudging, and I can remember my ex husband and our two babies sleeping together in the front room that night. I could see reflections in the windows at night. I did some research and learned that the place had been sold frequently and that tenants never stayed long, I broke my lease and within 3 months was out of there.
Many people live in houses, but they never feel like home. I think this feeling is part individuals, but also part home, and oftentimes, it is how we are treating the house. What types of things do you say and feel about your house? What does the houses history have to tell you about it’s story?
I look at magical cleaning and cleansing practices as a way to connect with your house, it’s soul, it’s story, and make it a home. Taking care of your house as if it were a living, breathing, thing, with a soul, is going to give back to you. No matter what the story, I do believe any house can become a home.
Magical cleaning and cleansing is about creating rituals for the home. While you get to reap the amazing benefits associated with magical cleaning, it will also speak to the soul of your home. Feel free to check out my previous blog on creating daily rituals for some inspiration. Also, if you have never thought about your homes story, history is really cool and full of magic!
This can also be a really fun journal activity, if your homes soul could speak, what would it say?
